University Student Accommodation Gym: 4 Reasons to Plan with RCH

Four reasons to involve RCH in your University Student Accommodation Gym plans
The Gym is often left till last when it comes to planning University Student Accommodation. Which, in these health and wellbeing times, is not ideal for students. In addition, it’s not good for the developers in terms of time and budget. At RCH, we have consulted and supplied for many Student Gyms around the UK. As a result, we’ve found the below four tips useful before finalising your plans.
1. Best space for your functional Gym
When planning the Student Gym location, it needs to be far away from student accommodation. Think noise transference issues, how students train, and even the flooring. However, the gym should be close enough to other student amenities, to foster that sense of community.

2. Fob access
Don’t forget to include fob access to enter the Gym in your University Student Accommodation. An entry control system provides that added security to the Student Gym. The fob also allows for only signed up students i.e. inducted gym goers. Which covers health and safety requirements.
3. Plan a studio alongside the Gym
Offering one type of workout through treadmills and gym equipment doesn’t provide the balanced approach to fitness students are craving nowadays. Therefore, having a studio designed alongside an onsite gym can bring in new students. Those who otherwise think a gym routine is “too routine.” The studio space provides those specialist classes from Yoga to Cycling, which students may be booking elsewhere. At RCH, we’ve noticed a trend in the following three classes for studio spaces: Barre (a combination of ballet, Pilates, and yoga), Studio Cycle and Yoga.

4. Include the space for Virtual Classes
One trend RCH are starting to incorporate in the design of Student Gyms is the concept of virtual classes. The classes already exist for virtual learning with tutors, and now they’re a growing phenomenon in fitness training. On-demand fitness is an excellent service to attract new student members.
Three components that are crucial to Virtual are:
On Demand Player (operational part of the system)
TV or Projection Display (visual)
Audio (music and sound)
It’s sometimes tricky to get your fitness scheduling and classes right, even when you have Personal Trainers and Instructors. Therefore, with on-demand fitness, the student gym can track what are the most popular classes by the time of day, and supply them automatically.
